«With the increasing age of my beloved Edith, who has always loved me and looked after me, I began drawing series of her in charcoal and pastels in 1993. In the year 2001, when Edith was 82 years old, I began making charcoal and pastel pictures of her again, more exact and more realistic ones in order to capture her essential features, assuming that if I lost her in death, she would always be with me in the drawings. I had to undertake these series because in every drawing and every work I experience a new and different Edith in all of her moods. It is a wondrous task I’ve set myself, observing and studying her as my vis-à.vis.» Charles Wyrsch, 2002
