From 1 May to 9 August 2015, the Aargauer Kunsthaus is presenting a wide-ranging exhibition of works by Hans Schärer (1927– 1997), an important artist from Lucerne, whose inimitable oeuvre transcends the norms of artistic convention. Highlight of the exhibition and the book are his monumental Madonnas and erotic watercolours on which he worked for so many years and with such obsessive energy. This is the first-ever presentation of Hans Schärer’s Madonna paintings almost in their entirety and juxtaposed with the majority of his erotic watercolours, revealing the ways in which these two important bodies of work relate in both style and subject matter.
